The Congress President, Mr. N. Sanjiva Reddi, called upon Congressmen in Patna on July 6 to accept the challenge posed by the strike threat of the Central Government employees and offer their services to the Government to meet it. He said they should be prepared to work even as railway porters and postmen, if need be. Mr. Reddi told a Congress workers' meeting that the call for strike given to Central Government employees was unpatriotic at a time when India's borders were threatened. He fervently hoped that the Central Government employees would not fall a prey to the “machinations of some misguided politicians” and would refuse to join the strike. He asked Congressmen to do their best to persuade the Central Government employees to desist from joining the proposed strike.
